Out-Patient Care

Elk Regional Health Center knows that high-quality healthcare doesn’t always happen on an in-patient basis. Sometimes, it’s as quick as a physical for a new job, other times it requires a brief visit to the emergency department or our same-day surgery suite.

Same-Day Surgery Suite:
Elk Regional’s 20-bed Same Day Surgery Suite provides a convenient and comfortable environment for outpatient surgery patients who will be in and out of the hospital in the same day.

Surgical procedures which may qualify for same day surgery include, but are not limited to:

  • tonsillectomy
  • hernia repair
  • tendon repair
  • closed reduction of fractures
  • knee examination and repair
  • circumcision
  • hemorrhoidectomies
  • laparoscopic gall bladder removal
  • ovarian cystectomies
  • breast biopsy
  • carpal tunnel surgery
  • knee arthroscopy
  • colonoscopy
  • gastroscope
  • foot bunion surgery
  • laparoscope
  • ear tube insertion
  • tubal ligations

Our surgery suite is staffed by specialized nursing and clinical professionals. Patients receive the same level of quality care, compassion and individual attention that they would receive if they were admitted to the hospital. Because this unit is located within the hospital, the full complement of acute care medical services is available immediately if needed.

Same-day surgery offers benefits to patients over conventional inpatient surgical stays in the hospital. Patients spend less time in the hospital, usually an average of four hours. Since they do not stay overnight, it means decreased financial burden for them and their healthcare insurers. Same-day surgery is also less invasive and has reduced recovery time, allowing patients to return to work and full activity sooner.
