Elk Regional Brings New Family Doctor to Johnsonburg

Elk Regional Health Center is pleased to announce that Rowan Baird, M.D., a family practitioner, is now seeing patients at Elk Regional’s Johnsonburg facility, located at 111 Cobb Street.

“Elk Regional Health Center sets high goals and standards when it comes to physician recruitment,” said Gregory P. Bauer, Elk Regional Health System’s President and CEO. “We strive to bring the best physicians and surgeons to the area because we feel strongly that our communities deserve it. I’m excited to introduce Dr. Baird to our community.”

For Dr. Baird, family medicine is more about relationships than it is about medical problems.

“I love family medicine because I love to have that close interaction with my patients and learn their stories,” she said. “It’s not just about medicine and the disease. It’s about the person. It’s about their family and what’s important to them. It’s about finding ways to work with people and taking a team approach to making them healthier.”

Born in Guyana, South America, Dr. Baird’s family relocated to the United States when she was nine years old. Her family now lives in New Jersey. The oldest of three children, Dr. Baird resides in St. Marys.

“St. Marys is a wonderful community,” she said. “It has that small-town atmosphere that people are always looking for. I find it, and the people who live here, to be very warm and welcoming.”

A graduate of Penn State University in State College, Pa., Dr. Baird earned her medical degree from Saint George’s University School of Medicine in Grenada, the West Indies. She completed her residency in family medicine at Lehigh Valley Hospital in Allentown, Pa. Dr. Baird is a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians, the Lehigh Valley Medical Society and the American Medical Association.

Before joining the staff at Elk Regional Health Center, Dr. Baird assisted with research focusing on the human genome project and has also assisted with DNA sequencing research. She has also volunteered at a shelter for abused and neglected children.
