Dr. Baker stepped into a post vacated by Maurus Sorg, M.D., who has accepted a full-time position in the Emergency Department at Elk Regional Health Center. Dr. Sorg holds Board certification in emergency medicine and has been part of Elk Regional for more than 30 years.
“For decades, Dr. Sorg has proudly served the Health System as a partner and owner of the original Keystone Medical Associates,” said Gregory P. Bauer, the President and CEO of Elk Regional Health System. “Patients who come in to our Emergency Department for care will benefit from Dr. Sorg’s experience.
“I’m pleased to welcome Dr. Baker to Elk Regional. He brings a wealth of his own experience to the region. The communities we serve deserve to be cared for the best physicians and the best surgeons. I’m excited to introduce Dr. Baker to our community.”
For Dr. Baker, starting a career in medicine was an easy choice.
“I knew right away that I wanted to be a doctor,” he said. “I simply chose a career and haven’t looked back. I enjoy primary care because it offers me the opportunity to work with people. I am very much looking forward to coming to St. Marys. Nowadays, a lot of places are getting very complicated in terms of what they focus on – and the focus isn’t always the delivery of medicine. St. Marys strikes me as a place where the focus is on delivering quality medical care – and that’s what matters to me.”
Dr. Baker earned his medical degree from Oregon Health Sciences University in Portland, Ore. He performed his residency at the St. Elizabeth Family Practice in Utica, New York.
Dr. Baker was stationed in South Korea as the officer in charge at the U.S. Army Camp Casey Troop Medical Clinic. He was later stationed at Fort Campbell, Kentucky as a family practice physician at the U.S. Army Blanchfield Army Community Hospital.
He has practiced family medicine at St. Agnes Hospital in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin and at the Aspirus Marathon Clinic in Marathon, Wisconsin. He has provided outpatient care to U.S. military veterans in Veteran’s Affairs clinics in New York, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin. Dr. Baker has also performed urgent care and emergency room care at the San Carlos Indian Hospital in San Carlos, Arizona.
Dr. Baker is Board Certified by the American Board of Family Practice. He and his wife, Cindy, have four children and will reside in the St. Marys area.
