But life gets in the way. It can seem like there’s never enough time to do everything “right” and still keep up with your other obligations.
That’s where personal nutrition coaching comes in.
“The way we live has a real impact on the way we feel,” said Gregory P. Bauer, the president and CEO of Elk Regional Health System. “Good habits promote positive attitudes and healthier lives. Unhealthy lifestyles, on the other hand, can lower the quality of our lives. The personal nutrition coaching program offers rewards that will last a lifetime.”
Offered by Elk Regional Health Center as part of the Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield Lifestyles Returns Program, personal nutrition coaching offers the opportunity for a one-on-one counseling session with one of Elk Regional’s Registered Dietitians.
“This program is designed to help people make healthy lifestyle and nutrition choices for better overall health or to address specific health concerns, such as weight management, heart health, and diabetes,” said Kelly Schreiber, a Registered Dietitian at Elk Regional who is also a Certified Diabetes Educator. “It doesn’t matter what your starting point is. Come as you are, commit to a healthy lifestyle, and we can show you how to make improvements that will keep you healthy for years to come.”
After an initial meeting with a Registered Dietitian, participants will record their food intake and physical activity and come back for follow-up visits to discuss progress and any changes that may need to be made.
Members of Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield pay nothing to participate in the program, which offers them seven free follow-up visits per year. The fee for non-Highmark members is $50 for the initial visit and $25 for each follow-up visit.
The program also counts as a step in Highmark’s “3 Step Lifestyles Returns” program.
