Pledges to The Elk Regional Capital Campaign Exceed Goal

Members of The Elk Regional Capital Campaign steering committee today announced that The Elk Regional Capital Campaign has enjoyed strong support from contributors who, over the next three to five years, are expected to provide $3.67 million to the campaign.

The total amount is $1.17 million more than the campaign’s $2.5 million goal.

“I am proud to say that the community and the Health System family have made such a strong show of support for both the campaign and the building project,” said Don Fleming, the campaign’s chairman. “This project is the single most important thing we can do to ensure a bright future for our hospital.”

“I have been overwhelmed by the generosity shown by people throughout the region and by our very own employees,” said Gregory P. Bauer, the President and CEO of Elk Regional Health System. “These are tough economic times, yet people found it within themselves to give generously in support of this institution. The whole experience has been very humbling.”

The Health System family was a major contributor to The Elk Regional Capital Campaign. The group, which includes volunteers, employees, medical staff, the Board of Directors, the Health System Auxiliary and the Health System Foundation, collectively pledged more than $1.44 million to the campaign. This includes a $250,000 pledge from the Health System Auxiliary and a dollar-for-dollar match to employee giving, up to $500,000, from the Health System Foundation.

The Elk Regional Capital Campaign also enjoyed strong support from the community. Local foundations, corporations, locally-owned businesses and individuals together pledged more than $2.25 million to the campaign, including gifts made through the Health System Foundation’s 2011 Annual Appeal.

The Elk Regional Capital Campaign is a fundraising initiative designed to support the construction of a third floor at Elk Regional Health Center. The new floor will house 42 private patient rooms and a new geriatric behavioral health unit. Elk Regional will also construct a new maternity unit as part of the building project.

Gifts to the campaign are still being accepted. Those who would like to make a gift may contact Sam MacDonald, the Director of Support Services and Business Development at Elk Regional, at (814) 788-8585. For more information, click here.
